Irreverent Electronics & Frivolous Circuits

Let us brighten your day - whether it's with a stupid funny desk toy, a handy breadboarding or PCB layout tool, or a quick soldering kit, we've got just the breath of fresh air you need. We're a woman-owned business that supports other women and marginalized folks in tech - whether you've been in the trenches for years, or are just starting out. Join us @alpenglowind on Twitter and Instagram, and keep in touch with our newsletter.

NEW in Store!

We're super excited to be offering for a short time Kitty Yeung's BLE Flowers!

Two flowers are included, which are BLE-enabled and can be programmed via Arduino and Scratch! They can react to each other depending on distance apart, and also feature an accelerometer, vibration motor, touch sensors, and of course, LEDs!

SMT Garden Now Available!

This is our "official" Learn to Surface Mount Solder kit! It's got a "Practice Stalks" area on the back where you can solder rows of 1206, 0603, and 0402 resistors and capacitors, as well as mini-melf and SOD-323 diodes. On half of the footprints, one pad is tied to ground, which gives you experience with soldering to pads with some heat sinking. You might be asking "but what about 0805s?" Well those are part of the actual circuit! It's also part of our Fun with 555s series, and uses 2 dual 555 timers and an inverter to create 5 different blink rates, one for each flower. You can make your flowers whatever color you want (or multicolor!), just be sure to match the LEDs with their corresponding resistor values. We hope your SMT soldering skills flourish and grow with this cool kit!

Coming Soon!

Here's a sneak-peak of our Coin Cell and RBG-RGB boards!

Looking for Lux Lavaliers?

We had the honor of having the first few available to the public at our booth at SiliCon with Adam Savage, and they sold out! But don't worry, word on the street is that more are coming this fall. Sign up at luxlavalier.com to be notified!

Solder Sesh #49 - Danielle Boyer of the Steam Connection & Skobots

Danielle creates companion bots that help preserve and teach Native American languages, while also teaching the basics of robotics and STEM. She is a truly impressive force and highly accomplished - she founded a non-profit organization called the Steam Connection that provides companions bots and robotics education to indigenous groups for free, she has spoken around the country including at the White House, and she's won several awards for her work. It's my pleasure to have her on and chat robots and making STEM more accessible with her! Watch and subscribe now!

CIRCUITPYTHON FOR C HEADS: PARDON THE INTERRUPTS

When Dennis Ritchie created C in the 1970s, he was targeting UNIX systems the size of several large appliances – it’s hard to believe he could have ever imagined that the language he was cobbling together could end up as a critical underpinning for the countless invisible microcontrollers that surround us every day. And he certainly wasn’t thinking about approachability for the would-be microcontroller audience. Fast-forward fifty or so years, however, and Adafruit have attempted to simplify learning to code on microcontrollers by developing the CircuitPython language.
