Description

This is a Beginning Soldering workshop for anyone who wants to learn how to solder components to a circuit board!  With this skill, you can build a myriad of fun projects and delve deeper into electronics and circuits, and it's the first step towards being able to fix broken electronics.  If you're considering more training in electronics or becoming a technician, this is a great way to dip your toes in the water and try it out before committing a lot of time & resources to a longer program.

  • held in person at our workspace in San Luis Obispo
  • open to adults 18 and over only
  • no prior experience necessary
  • welcoming, anti-gatekeeping environment
  • 2 hrs long

You will learn how to use a soldering iron and learn about the materials used in soldering including types of solder, flux, and soldering iron tips.  We only use lead-free solder.  We will put together 2 small soldering kits that feature "large" through-hole components and blinking LEDs.  Magnifiers are available to use, and reading glasses may be helpful.  This is a soldering skills development class, if you'd like to learn more about how electronics work, check out our Basic Electronics workshop.

These workshops are possible because of a City of San Luis Obispo Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Grant - we particularly encourage anyone part of an underrepresented group in STEM to join us, and we do not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, disability, or age.

If the cost of this workshop would prevent you from attending, we have a few spaces available for those with economic hardship.  Use coupon code "LTSWKSHOP" to reduce the fee to $5.
